Kauri Hall Stand c.1890 This very handsome colonial interpretation of a more formal English design is made from kauri stained dark to suit the tastes of the time. Strongly influenced by Arts & Crafts and neo Gothic design, this would have been an inexpensive item for a modest settler's cottage. The beautifully turned elements add a degree of contrast to the otherwise very hand worked nature of this utilitarian piece. The angled arms and saw tooth shelf support make for a bold re-interpretation of items…

Christchurch Parquetry Dressing Table c.1890 This dressing table and the following wardrobe are exceptional late 19th C examples of New Zealand cabinetmaking skills, with the intensity of inlay of this nature almost unknown outside of these examples. Both pieces originated from Christchurch and are clearly from the same workshop. The use of the New Zealand themed Teutenberg handles accentuates the prolific use of New Zealand timbers.
