Description:
An important group of Diaries and Journals relating to Sir Thomas Brisbane 1773 - 1860. Sir Thomas Brisbane, former Governor of New South Walesin 1820 and a founding father of Australia, whom Brisbane is named after. I) an 1818 Diary. A diary whilst in command of the army of occupation in France, an appointment made by the Duke of Wellington after a successful participation during the Peninsular war. The dairy is in two parts, one suggesting his recollection of the history of Charles the 5th of Spain and his control of Territories in Europe (of which Brisbane is travelling through at this time). The second part being a straight diary recording places and events during his European tour. The diary is complete with 'Brisbane of Brisbane' bookplate and also includes poetry of Thomas Moore (1779 - 1852 Irish Poet). Ii) A Ledger dated 1825-1843. Inscribed inner cover, 'New Mills Parish of Loudoun'. The ledger has records of names and payments made from 1825-1843. Iii) A bound volume of Transcribed Land Transactions. This volume relating to the Brisbane Estate and property attributed to Sir. Thomas Brisbane
