A carved wood manuscript cover, Tibet, depicting Prajnaparamita surmounted by Garuda, and flanked by the Buddha Sakyamuni to the left and Manjusri to the right, seated on lotus thrones within elaborate niches, surrounded by birds, animals and scrolling foliage, traces of red pigment and gilding, 20 x 58 cm, Prajnaparamita is the personification of the sixth paramita the perfection (paramita) of wisdom (prajna) and is shown holding the book of transcendental wisdom and a lotus.
