A New Zealand World War I 9ct gold tribute medal, shield-shaped and topped with an artillery badge with the dates '1914-1918' on scrolls to either side. Presented to Battery Sergeant-Major Charles Forrest, (Fifth Draft to the New Zealand E.F. Field Artillery), from the residents of Ohinewai on his return from active service at Gallipoli, Egypt and France. B.S.M. Forrest was invalided back to New Zealand on the hospital ship Maheno in 1916. He died in 1922.
