Leski Auctions two-day sale in Melbourne to feature over 1500 lots of decorative arts and collectables.

No matter what collectors might be looking for this year, they will be sure to find something to their liking at Leski Auctions forthcoming Decorative Arts & Collectables two-day sale on Saturday March 26 and Sunday March 27 at their Armadale rooms, when more than 1500 items go under the hammer at 727-729 High Street, Armadale.

The top selling lot was a 19th century Anglo-Colonial Padouk centre table (lot 385), that sold for $19,520 (including buyer’s premium) on an $8000-$12,000 catalogue estimate.

Gibson's sale on 6 February 2022 of two major collections: the late Claude Ullin AM and the Bloomfield/Taylor family exceeded expectations, with 131% sold by value.

Sculptor Ferdinand Preiss’s c1925 creation German The Torch Dancer (lot 326) filled second spot – changing hands for $18,300 – the surprise result in the Bloomfield section of the sale was a pair of wrought iron bouquet table lamps (lot 102) that brought $6100 on a $300-$500 catalogue estimate.

Assembled by Sally Robertson and her ancestors, the collection spans three centuries, including a Grant Featherstone (1922-1995) R160 chair (above) estimated at $3,000-5,000

Gibson's Auctions selling a collection spanning three centuries

Collections by two stalwarts of Melbourne’s art and fashion scene – the late Claude Ullin and Sally Robertson (nee Bloomfield) will be part of Gibson’s Auctions forthcoming Interiors auction from 11am Sunday March 6 at 885-889 High Street, Armadale. Sally Robertson’s ancestors include rubber plantation owner Arthur Bloomfield, wealthy pastoralist William Taylor, Sir John and Lady Bloomfield (nee Taylor) and parents Peter and Julia Bloomfield.

Auction goers will be excited by assortment of contemporary glassware once live viewing gets underway from 9am Thursday February 10 at Philips Auctions first Fine and Decorative Arts sale for the year at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern.

Iconic industry names from the 1930s, 1970s and 1980s such as Murano, Kosta Boda, Orrefors and Lalique – alongside 19th century crystal – will be featured including a 1930s art deco shallow centrepiece bowl (lot 194) by designer Pierre D’Avesn (1901-1990) who worked for both Rene Lalique and Daum at the time. All bidding is online with the timed auction finishing from 12pm Monday February 14.
