The Edward Lionel Terry archive of watercolour painting and writing, each mounted on uniform cards, includes a self-portrait behind bars entitled 'This Man is Mad' with various verse to the back, another with illustrated verse 'The Pig-Islander' dated 1914, 'The Limit', 'My Wish', 'False Gods', 'Silly Fools!', etc., the 13 cards with written and printed detail mostly to both sides and mainly signed. Note: in 1905 Terry murdered an elderly Chinese gentleman in Haning Street, Wellington, to draw attention to his views on alien immigration. 'Terry's belief in racial segregation and his obsession with what was commonly called 'The Yellow Peril' drove him to murder, and condemned him to nearly half a century in mental hospitals'
