Description:
A Yokohama carved wood display cabinet, late 19th century the glazed circular display area with fabric backing, containing four stepped shelves supported on a central column carved with flowering prunus, bamboo and rockwork rising from a lower shelf, within the wood frame surmounted by an elaborate pierced cresting of flowering iris and cloud scrolls, and supported on four cabriole legs similarly carved with iris springing from the coiled stem feet, all above a rectangular platform base on claw feet, fitted with a single drawer, the slatted tambour sides opening to the cabinet to either side, 205 cm high, 110 cm wide, 60 cm deep. Provenance, The Duke of Bedford Collection, Woburn Abbey (by repute) prior to 1890's, Percy Norton Russell, New South Wales, Private Collection, New South Wales, by descent from the above
