An 18th century cased ebony framed Octant, Gabriel Wright (1740-1803), London, ivory vernier, scale, signature plate and small ivory plaque to verso for recording data, index arm and mirror supports are ebony to reduce glare. The fouled anchor indicates Ramsden's dividing engine was used to produce graduations on the scale and vernier, ensuring accuracy, 41 cm long.
