A large Cantonese ivory puzzle ball, 19th century, the outer layer finely carved and pierced with figures in a landscape, the multiple inner layers pierced with diaper patterns, the ball surmounted by the god of literature Kuixing sitting on a dragon-carp and holding a writing brush in his right hand, a precious pearl in his left, all suspended on a chain, with a lower section carved with a bat and with a red silk tassel.
