Of Australian Historical Interest: A Victorian enamel and gold cased keyless pocket watch, circa 1890, the case set with a central rose-cut diamond, surrounded by blue and turquoise enamel and a band of pink roses of a finely chased ground, opening to reveal a signed white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds, the inside plate engraved: Mrs. Wm. Little, Mayoress, From the Citizens of Ballarat, August 1890, the signed and numbered movement by American Waltham Watch Co., No 304568, the case Birmingham, 1886, 18 carat yellow gold, original fitted presentation case. The recipient of the watch, Mayoress Catherine (Kate) Walford Little (nee. Cazaly) married William Little in 1862. She was known for her knowledge of music and was one of Ballarat's more prominent female instrumentalists, as both a pianist and organist and played the organ in St Paul's Church for 5 years and regular preformed in public. In 1880 William began his business in Ballarat as an auctioneer and real estate agent, later becoming Mayor of Ballarat in 1890. He was known as an author of short fiction, booklets and leaflets, as well as poetry under the pseudonym; 'Lambda' One of his poems; 'God Bless These Twain so Great' was produced as a hymn of welcome for the visit of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Cornwall and York and His Consort, the Grand Duchess.
