A Louis XVI ormolu striking cartel clock, Jean-Baptiste Du Tertre, Paris, third quarter 18th century the shield-shaped case with Classical vase finial and flanked by architectural mounts with bell-flower and floral finials, with foliate garland to the front, pendulum opening, lacking glass, the white 8 inch enamel Roman and Arabic dial signed J.B. Du Tertre/A PARIS, with pierced and chased ormolu hands, the eight day twin barrel movement with rectangular cut corner plates joined by five back-pinned pillars, with anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike on bell, signature to the back plate J.B. Du Tertre A PARIS, 42 cm wide, 11 cm deep, 83 cm high. Note: Jean-Baptiste Du Tertre was born in 1715. He suceeded his father and became a Master Clockmaker in 1735. Du Tertre is particularly known for the quality of the cases he used for his clocks. He died in 1772
