A pair of convict handcuffs with key, stamped 'Field & Sons, Holborn London', with broad arrow, together with a pair of linking locks with keys, a single chain with two keys and two jailers' keys (9). note: the linking locks and single chain are possibly from a chain gang, where a number of convicts were joined together to make escaping more difficult. Provenance: Pair of handcuffs purchased at 'Port Authur Convict Relics, Australian Trade Tokens and New Guinea & New Zealand Native Artifacts', PL Pickles, 28 Nov 1981; another two pairs at Steer & Co.
