'Hamley Gun Club 1873 Champion Cup', an Australian silver presentation cup and cover by Henry Steiner, Adelaide, circa 1870, by Henry Steiner, Adelaide, circa 1870, raised on an octagonal base applied with large vine leaves, intertwined stem, the bowl engraved 'Won by J.W. Bakewell 15th March 1874, H.F. Shipster 11th Oct 1873, J.W. Bakewell 13 Sept 1873, W.J. Crawford 8th Nov 1873' and supported by bunches of grapes and vines, the cover with a large finial of a standing putto holding a standard, marked 'H.ST/kangaroo/emu/14', 41 cm high 865 gms (27.9oz). Provenance: JB Hawkins, 28 Mar 1985. Reference: For a similar cup see Nineteenth Century Australian Silver, by J.B. Hawkins Volume Two, page 169, where there is some conjecture that the cup was made by Charles Edward Finnhaber and retailed by Steiner
