A late 19th century German ivory and silver gilt mounted oval tray by Georg Roth of Hanau, Augsburg marks with a central oval ivory panel carved in relief depicting, the goddess Venus seated in a chariot drawn by peacocks, with attendants and putti amongst clouds, surrounded by four panels carved with a continuous procession of Bacchus in a chariot drawn by leopards, attended by nymphs and satyrs, the drunken Silenus astride a mule with further goats and bacchantes, all inset within silver and gilt repousse and chased scrolls, exotic birds, caryatids supporting scrolling fruit, classical masks and baskets of fruit, together with a mahogany and line inlaid oval display table, circa 1920.
