A Louis XV walnut and kingwood parquetry commode, circa 1740, by Walter, the shaped rouge Royal marble top with moulded edge above two concaved single drawers above two long drawers, raised on bracket feet, the whole decorated with cross-banded veneers and gilt bronze mounts and handles, with maker's mark Walter and the letters Jve, 132 cm wide, 67 cm deep, 86 cm high, (51.5 wide, 26 deep, 33.5 high). Note: Pierre Walter: the ebeniste Walter worked from his shop on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine for, the ebeniste François Mondon (1694-1770) and the marchand-ebeniste Pierre Migeon (1701-58), who supplied Madame de Pompadour., the letters Jve denote, the official stamp of the Parisian jures de la corporation des menuisiers-ebenistes.
