A large cylindrical ivory vase, Meiji period, the slightly curved sides carved in high relief with a peacock standing beside flowering peonies and lilies, with song birds in flight beside a gnarled tree entwined with blossoming wisteria, and with a pair of ducks beside roses, daisies and hibiscus in full bloom, in a continuous scene below scrolling clouds encircling the mouth, signed on two rectangular panels Sawa, Yoshiaki, ivory and wood stand (2) 37.
