Description:
An Egyptian period bronze 'Apis' bull, fitted to original long rectangular base, the sacred bull finely modelled, shown striding with left legs forward, incised decorations comprising a collar, cross-hatched blanket, winged scarab across the withers and a winged vulture goddess over his haunches, triangle to his brow, the solar disc missing from between his horns, the genitalia indicated. Reputedly late period, dynasty XXVI-XXX, 664-343 B.C. Length 11.5 cm, raised on later blackened wood stand. Provenance: acquired by our vendor's husband (now deceased) c. 1945.
