A William IV period mahogany framed sofa which extends to become a day bed. Attributed to S.W. Silver & Co., England, the scrolling single end and back inlaid with panels of Wycombe caning, raised on turned legs with brass casters, the birch sub-structure of rails slide to extend to a day bed configuration. Ring bolts hang beneath to enable the sofa to be secured whilst on a ship board journey. C. 1840. See 'Furniture of the New Zealand Colonial Era' by William Cottrell pages 161 and 121
