A quality Japanese Meiji period bronze censer of boat shape raised on four monopodia from a square platform base with incurved feet and lidded with a cover surmounted by a kylin. The censer body decorated with dragons cast in low relief to either side, ho-ho birds form handles issuing from the rim, the legs similarly decorated, the base decorated in low relief with a stylised lotus flower. The cover locates on the base with two demon masks, paulownia leaves and tendrils decorate the dome, the expressive kylin turns his head back over his shoulder, mouth open to emit smoke from the burning incense. Height 37.5 cm.
