Description:
A fine and rare North Abram secret society ceremonial mask. Made of fernwood, fibre, vegetable paste and spider web. The abstract human face with boar’s tusks issuing from the cheek section, painted in red ochre, black and white mineral pigment with attached smoked finely- meshed spider’s web. The body of a captured beetle retained in the web. The mask in fine condition having been historically wrapped in pandanus leaf and kept in a Nakumal hut when not in use, 22 x 22 cm
