Description:
c1950 Wooden SpeedboatIn the late 1940s through to the 1960s, the runabout, a fast planing boat with a flattish bottom and relatively lightweight construction was incredibly popular amongst the new prospering class of post-war revival. No where was this more so than in the Usa where there were a multitude of companies led by the likes of Chris-Craft and the Hacker Boat Co applying new technology to the manufacture of wooden boats. The evolution of the runabout, even in its earliest days was synonymous with the automobile. This can be seen in the engine technology and styling such as steering wheels, chrome fittings and instrumentation. This pretty little carvel built wooden speedboat, 'Scooter' c1950 is typical of the period. Whilst the actual builder is unknown, 'Scooter' is an American boat, most probably from Lake Tahoe. It features nice original period details including an Attwood steering wheel and Airglide instrumentation. The boat has been recently fitted with a marinised 100 hp Honda engine for ease of use and reliability. The original engine is also included in the sale. 'Scooter' sits on a roadworthy, registered period trailer and comes with a boat cover.Look out for 'Scooter' on the soon to be released Mitsubishi Challenger tv commercial.
