Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh, George III style mahogany four door breakfront bookcase, the pediment fitted with twin pierced foliate capped swan neck mouldings, leading to the dentiled everted cornice, the doors having applied anthemion roundels, acanthus swags and astragal mouldings, enclosing fully adjustable shelves, the lower part with a rectangular top, and a central long deep drawer and four graduated drawers below, flanked by twin banks of one deep and four graduated short drawers, all fitted with original brass hardware, J Lancebear of Birmingham and resting on a plinth base. Width 242 cm depth, 43.5 cm. Height 297.5 cm. This firm of both antique Dealers and Cabinetmakers, established in 1807. Where of such prominence that they were described in the 19th century as 'One of the most Eminent Houses of Business in Edinburgh ....' They would often buy their creations back.
