Description:
The Historic 1914-15 star to Corporal Preston, a noted Auckland Grammar school student, bayonetted at Chunuk Bair killed at Messines with the NZ engineers. Impressed 4/432 L/Cpl F J Preston NZEF. Note: Preston was a champion cadet shot, and a very enlistment he embarked for Egypt in October 1914. He was bayonetted in the vicious hand to hand combat when Chunuk Bair was over-run by the Turks on 10 August 1915. After his recovery he embarked to France and was killed at Messines on 7 June 1916, where he was buried in a garden shell hole. The medal framed and displayed with two engineers badges. Includes copies of photo.
