A pair of tall 1920s hand-painted wooden Isar Ganaur Maharaja and Maharani figures, on square wooden bases. Some repairs commensurate with age, height 1600 & 170 cm (including bases). Base width 50 x 50 cm. Repairs to arms and distress commensurate with age. Note: Gangaur is an important Rajasthani festival. It celebrates spring, marital fidelity and childbearing. Gana is a synonym for Lord Shiva and Gaur which stands for Gauri or Parvati who symbolizes marital bliss. Unmarried women pray to her for a good husband and married women for the health and long life of their husbands and a happy married life.
