Description:
A Royal Worcester porcelain 'Limoges Enamel' decorated plate, Mid-1860s, the enamel decoration attributed to Thomas Bott, Snr, circular, cobalt blue ground with gilt borders and rim, the plain centre with a gilt anthemion border, the low raised sides decorated in white enamel with erotes in medallions between fields of foliage framing grotesque masks, two impressed factory marks underside together with the gilder's signature 'Rs', probably for Samuel Ranford, 26 cm diameter. Other notes: a Worcester plate with near-identical decoration was exhibited at the 1862 London international exhibition, illustrated in the Art Journal illustrated catalogue of the international exhibition 1862 (London, 1862), p. 257.. Condition: Scratches to the blue ground and enamelling to one side of the plate, with small scratches to blue ground to centre.
