Description:
A George III sterling silver tankard marked 'Latona', John Crouch II or John Cowie, London 1815, the straight-sided tankard with threaded girdles, engraved 'Latona' twice, and with an engraved image of the frigate within a laurel wreath, hallmarked below rim, 9 cm high, 170 gms. Other Notes: HMS Latona was a 36-gun, fifth-rate frigate of the Royal Navy that served during the American, and French Revolutionary wars, the Napoleonic Wars, later serving in the Baltic and Caribbean among other theatres. In 1810 Latona served as a troopship and later recommissioned as a warship serving as the flagship of Admiral Sir William Johnstone Hope. Latona was sold in 1816.
