Description:
Chinese 18th century Qing Dynasty blue and white clobbered' jar and cover, of fine baluster form with a domed cover and finial, decorated in underglaze blue with three seated figures in an outdoor scene with pine tree and rocky outcrops, with later 'clobbered' bold red enamel fill work to ground, with good six character K'ang Shi mark to base within double rings, a/f (past restoration to the lip), height 43.5 cm note: 'clobbered China' refers to the early 18th century onwards practice of adding bright coloured enamels and gilding to white/blank areas around the original Chinese brush work. This was possibly a reaction to the large amounts of blue and white porcelain items being imported by the Dutch traders of the period.
