Henry Whitaker. House Furnishing, Decorating and Embellishing Assistant, London, 1825-50 revised edition, 111 plates of furniture and fitments (including metalwork and porcelain) in the 'Grecian, Italian, Renaissance, Louis-Quatorze, Gothic, Tudor and Elizabethan styles. Interspersed with Designs Executed for the Royal Palaces, and for some of the Principal Mansions of the Nobility and Gentry, and Club Houses'. The majority of the designs are in the Italian Renaissance and Elizabethan styles, and the cabinetmakers Holland's and Bantings are mentioned as having made some of the pieces, spine attachment damage, wear to extremities and discoloration to edges of binding, slight tearing to extremities English designer. His influential pattern books reflect styles from the late Regency period to the early Victorian. His designs were executed for a number of important clients, including Queen Victoria. Whitaker's most important work is the House Furnishing, Decorating and Embellishing Assistant (London, 1847). In 1849 Whitaker published a book of formal botanical designs, Materials for a New Style of Ornament.
