Description:
19th century New Guinea Massim lime spatula Attrib. To 'The master of the prominent Eyes.' well carved squatting figure in fine grained dark wood. Seated on a bracket carved with 2 stylised bird's heads. The figure with graceful, curved eyebrow ridges, nose with pierced septum, prominent large ears with pierced lobes. Disproportionately thin arms and legs, with hands on chest. Spiral carving to breast, shoulder blades and buttocks and a vertical zig-zag down spine. Height 31 cm.
