Description:
Beautifully carved large Maori wooden panel of modern design and carved by a master carver. Background design of intricate spirals with two figures one atop of the other. Below is a Maori warrior with facial moko and holding a taiaha, the top figure is of a tiki with tongue outstretched and holding an adze with artificial greenstone coloured adze head. Both figures have inset paua shell eyes. Height 2130 cm, the panel was carved in a Maori carving school in the main thermal area of central Rotorua. It took the master carver and two apprentices nine months to complete, the work has been exhibited at two trade expos in San Francisco and Japan. Purchased in 1994 for $9000 by an American client living in New Zealand who has now returned to the USA and asked US to sell on his behalf
