A rare and impressive Japanese Edo period (1603-1868) Samurai suit of armour, with multi hob-nail plate suji bachi ridged helmet, mounted with demonic head, decorative fukigaeshi (turnbacks), tall kuwagata, black lacquered iron menpo (face plate) with hair moustache, laced multi-panelled throat guard, shoulder-plates, chest, waist and leg guards with blue and coloured laced lacquered panels. Gilt metal decorative fittings. Housed in black lacquer original box.
