Description:
Four 19th century Chinese Kingfisher feather jewelled and gilt jewellery items, includes three hair pins and one crescent form large mount, two highlighted with seed pearls, garnets and coral cabochons. The longest 12 cm. Some losses. Note: the trade of Cambodian Kingfisher feathers to China was a major source of revenue for Cambodia and may have been responsible for funding the building Angkor Wat. The jewellery technique of incorporating these feathers is known as Tian-tsui. Use of this jewellery by ladies of the Chinese Imperial Court created a fashion and high demand.
