Pair of Qing Dynasty Chinese 8th rank badges, late 19th century, of rectangular form, depicting a quail amount flowers and cloud and wave scroll with red sun to top left corner, in tones of blue, green, green, cream, brown and purple, mounted, 20 cm x 22 cm (badge), (2) catalogue note: on of these badges has been published in 'Ruling from the dragon throne: costume of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 19110' by John E. Vollmer (figure 4.41, page 123) in significant Museum collections of rank badges there are fewer examples of 8th rank Quails than any of the other ranks. Provenance: Collection of Judith Rutherford
