A Maori carved papahou (treasure box), carved by John Rua, the rectangular shaped lid with two relief figures joined feet-to-feet upon a ground carved in relief with further figures and scrolls, the base entirely carved with stylised contorted figures, two further figures as the handles, paua inserts, dark brown patina, the base signed by the carver and dated 1978. 33 cm x 14 cm x 11.5 cm. Not Registered.
