A pair of rare late 19th century Indian Mughal ivory carved Paduka slippers, traditional scrolling form with fine carved border bands of rosettes and tendril design, five repeating leaf design outer border, the raised rims carved with various animals including elephants and rhinoceros, a turned finial to the front of each, some damage. Length 265. Note: traditionally worn in wealthy households or by royalty within an area of worship. Provenance: Ex. an artist's estate who was resident in India c.1950-1970.
