Indian Colonial silver twin handled trophy, late 19th/early 20th century, marked P. Orr & Sons, Madras, silver, circular bowl chased with stylised flowers above lobed decoration, supported on a slender tapering stem flanked by scrolling ribbons, bound at the centre by a band of acanthus leaf on stepped circular foot, total weight 320gms, height 22.5 cm. Provenance: Sothebys Sydney, 27 October 2015, Lot 314. Catalogue note: The largest and most successful of the European owned firms in Madras and the south of India was P. Orr & Sons of Madras, whose products were chosen by some of the Indian Princes as gifts to be presented to the Price of Wales on his visit to India in 1875-76. By 1900 P.Orr & Sons was described by George Watt as 'The Largest and Best Appointed Establishment of This Kind in India'
