Description:
A painted grey pottery figure of a female attendant Han dynasty, the slender figure modelled standing wearing a long white robe folded across the chest, the clasped hands held in front hidden within the wide sleeves, the long hair drawn back and knotted below the shoulders, the face with delicate features detailed in black and red on a white ground, traces of white slip and black and red pigments, perspex stand, 50 cm high. Provenance: Dragon Culture, Hong Kong. Private Collection, Hong Kong, acquired from the above circa 2000. Compare with a similar figure from the Cox Family Collection, sold Sotheby's New York, 20 March 2012, lot 21, and a grey pottery figure in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, illustrated in Oriental Ceramics The World's Great Collections, Vol 12, monochrome plate no 10.
