A pair of Japanese bronze and partially gilt covered censers, late 19th century, (6), each in three sections, cast in high relief, the base encircled with a dragon above shells tossed among waves, supporting the vase springing from a compressed globular section with turtles swimming among waves, the steeply rounded sides decorated with seven cranes in flight among scrolling clouds below the galleried key-fret rim, the cover pierced with a frieze of phoenix and clouds surmounted by an eagle with wings outstretched perched on rockwork gazing down at a snake coiled beneath, the relief decoration highlighted in gilding, marked Dai Nippon Yoshida zo, Kyoto, (6), 80 cm high
