He is holding a lantern and is supporting a Buddha figure with lotus sceptre that has appeared in the smoke above him. Sumi stained inkwork patterns on his robe. Two small devotee children gaze at her adoringly from below, the robes finely etched with sumi stained diaper patterns, dentine visible throughout, signed. Height 39.5 cm

A good large early Meiji period elephant ivory carving of a Samurai warrior in full battle armour, he stands on guard on top of a rocky outcrop holding a yari while his companion looks out below. Both figures and all the details are very well rendered particularly the armour, the Samurai are wearing tachi swords (part missing) denoting high rank. Tokyo school, signed on a red lacquer tablet.
