An ivory netsuke, early 19th century, unsigned. A very well carved and clever study of a ronin hiding behind a large ox. On one side the hairwork of the animal is excellent and on the other the muscles, robes and detail are superb. Himotoshi formed by the animal's tail. Australian collection. Length 6.2 cm
