A large stone toki, Aotearoa, crafted from a black stone. A rough surface with losses from use. With a curved profile. When ancestors of Maori first arrived in Aotearoa from East Polynesia they found a wide variety of rock types to use for tools and ornamentation. Stone toki, or adzes were lashed to wood handles and used for wood working, length 21 cm, width 7 cm, depth 4 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, Aotearoa, this taonga falls under the Protected objects Act (1975). To purchase this piece, you will need to be a registered collector of taonga Taturu.
