Description:
A model Granary jar, Han Dynasty (25 - 220 Ce), Modelled as a granary (or silo) with a conical tiled roof and made of pale pink earthenware, the whole covered in a dark green lead glaze, including the base. There is a central circular opening at the top. The cylindrical body of the jar is decorated with three bands of three grooves around the sides. Residual burial earth is still adherent beneath the rim of the roof. The model is supported on three so-called 'Bear' feet, cast in a separate mould. The roof, the body, the base and the three 'Bears' were all made separately and luted jointly. Similar green-glazed granary jars are shown in Figs 87 and 1 14, spirit of Han, Southeast Asian ceramic Society, 1991.
