*** A Magnificent Fern Box by Anton Seuffert (1815-1887). This Anton Seuffert fern box is one of only seven known examples of this genre from the workshop of New Zealand's premier cabinetmaker. Fern boxes were made to store pressed native fern specimens mounted inside paper folders. The Victorian English were keen collectors of flora and fauna from the lands of the New World.… ***
*** A Superb Handkerchief Box by Anton Seuffert. This Seuffert handkerchief box was returned from England after remaining within the same UK based family since it's original acquisition. Apparently the family ancestors purchased it new at a public exhibition in Great Britain in the 1880s. Anton Seuffert was well known for promoting his work in Australia, England and Europe and won many awards from these types of displays.… ***
*** The Kotahitanga Settlements Maori Parliamentary Cabinet Box This cabinet was the original debating box for Maori speakers of the Lower House. Composed of walnut marquetry, cross banded with central cupboard doors and inlaid with boxwood lines.Engraved with inscription/name Henare Tomoana (probably applied after cabinet was removed from service). Note Tomoana was a member of the Maori Parliament.… ***
*** An Elegant William Seuffert Domed Glove Box incorporating a range of patterns used on other Seuffert pieces but never previously seen in this format. William Seuffert specialized in making small decorative boxes of approximately the same size but widely varying in marquetry design. The original condition and strong colour retention of this box makes it a valuable addition to the Seuffert catalogue of works.… ***
*** A superb Anton Seuffert domed lid glove box in New Zealand native timbers, burr totara ends, the rest in striped inlay with geometric floral top. A. Seuffert green label to inside. *** An Elegant Anton Seuffert Domed Glove Box, burr totara with native timber inlay. This glove box is an early example from the workshop of New Zealand's premier colonial cabinetmaker. The black label attached inside indicates construction prior to 1869 when Seuffert's label was upgraded to reflect his Royal Appointment. As the name implies, glove boxes were made to store small clothing items or possibly valuable mementoes. In 1875 these boxes were advertised for sale for £3.… ***

*** W.A. Jewell Glove Box c.1895 Inlaid glove boxes, such as this fine example, were popular during the colonial period. W.H Jewell established himself as a cabinetmaker in Christchurch about 1875 and he and his family, including W.A. Jewell, continued in the trade well into the 20th century.… ***

*** Rimu Cutlery Box c.1875 Unusually this rimu cutlery tray has hinged covers to keep the dust at bay. The well-shaped handle and sloping side make this a desirable item of domestic ware. Width 42 cm Depth 27 cm ***

*** Nz Timber Dressing and Jewellery Box with Paua shell edge. Red velvet and leather ruche lining inside lid. Original scent bottles (2) with stoppers, two other bottles, different sizes and three different sized containers with Epns lids. Has secret compartment for jewellery/letters. Diamond shaped inset on top of lid of mother of pearl and paua and also where the lock is located (no key). Engraved Cja 1879. (Next lot is a companion piece) ***
