World War I small personal photo album of an unidentified member of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, with 24 pages and forty eight images. The quality of the images and the subject matter suggests this may be the album of an officer. The images are on the whole unpublished with the exception of one, published in the 2007 book 'Devils on Horses, the History of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles in Palestine' by Lt. Col Terry Kinloch. This particular image is one of three in the album relating to the little known…

An Important Collection of three Diaries and ephemera belonging to Harold Hadfield, a soldier in the Canterbury Infantry regiment who served on the Western Front during World War I. This includes his three diaries with virtually daily entries over a 3 year period. Harold's diaries start in 1917 (perhaps he was sent a 'Soldier's Diary' as a Christmas present which was commonplace at the time.) Almost daily he records snippets of information enlightening the reader to the suffering of the Anzac on the…

The Peterson Diary An historically important military diary belonging to Sergeant Hans Petersen, of the New Zealand Field Artillery. The diary starts in 1917 and ends in 1918. It covers his entire war service. The diary is important and unique in that Petersen was one of a handful of men of the New Zealand Field Artillery who served aboard the troopships as Gunners. Petersen left New Zealand onboard 'Tainui' on 1 August 1917. It is presumed that he has served on other ships as well. His diary details his…
