A polished rhinoceros horn mounted on a simple wooden plinth. 2206gm, 51 cm high. The horn previously belonged to Matthias Walter born 1877, in Hamburg, Germany, who was an employee of the renowned Carl Hagenbeck, founder of the famous zoo 'Tierpark Hagenbeck'. Walter travelled the world to catch, purchase, and transport wild animals together with documentation of the animal's natural habitat which was later utilized by Hagenbeck to initiate a revolution in zoo architecture
