Provenance: Tradition has it that the barometer is Admiral Fitzroy?s barometer taken on expedition voyages with Darwin and given by Fitzroy to a sailor on board ship, the paper backing was then attached and it was passed to the sailor?s family and subsequently sold in 1950 to an English dealer from whom the present owner purchased it in England in that year.
