A touch of the old Southern Cross Hotel in Exhibition Street, Melbourne will be evident at Philips Auctions sale from noon on Sunday  April 11 at 47 Glenferrie Road, Malvern, when items from the Jade Gallery (part owned by the late Lewis Noble) go under the hammer.

A major feature of the collection is an imposing late 17th century Tibetan bronze mendicant (Lot 89) with an estimate of $25,000-$35,000. A pair of Ming Dynasty (1368-1643) porcelain figures (Lot 80) should attract plenty of attention along with a Georgian 1816 sterling silver claret jug (Lot 195).

The 90 lots that comprise the collection include an 1812 cruet set (Lot 221) and a Russian Faberge 1895 silver podstakannick (Lot 200) and 1888 salt cellar (Lot 204). There also is a collection of Murano glass (Lots, 229, 234, 235, 242) along with a William IV rosewood whatnot (Lot 446) and an 1860 burr walnut Wellington secretaire chest (Lot 430).

Other items to feature in the auction include a late 19th century pair of Chinese porcelain foo dogs (Lot 106) that were once part of the Lord Howard De Walden collection and a rare 17th century Byzantine icon panel depicting Mary surrounded by various saints and angels (Lot 11).

From 6pm Monday April 12, Philips Auctions jewellery sale will feature diamond and gold bangles, antique Victorian cameo brooches and a range of coloured stone rings that should attract buyers looking for quality at a reasonable price.

Of interest amongst the watches and cufflinks section is a ladies Cartier wristwatch (Lot 213) with a $4000-$5500 estimate.
