The vase (Lot 358 ), part of the deceased estate of his wife Valerie, was purchased by his father Alan (for many years secretary of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria) in the early 20th century from its original owner His Excellency the late Havhannes Khan Mossaed, Minister to the Persian Legation, through London auctioneers Messrs Phillips, Son & Neale Ltd.

It is accompanied by a typed description dated April 10, 1935 detailing its history. Signed by the artist Henri Deschamps, the vase is jade green overlaid with gold and features hand painted scenes from a stag hunt.

The vase carries an estimate of $7,000-10,000.

Philips first auction for 2011 will be notable for the introduction of new decorative arts manager Jack Jenkinson, a third generation antiques industry family member whose father has been an Adelaide-based antique dealer and restorer for 35 years.

An Adelaide-based taxidermy collector, who last year placed several animals for sale with Philips Auctions, is once more selling off more of his collection, including a crocodile and giraffe. These have proved particularly popular and in 2010 fetched strong prices from enthusiastic collectors.
