Neild. His 'Australian Dictionary of Biography' entry states '...Neild had a genius for getting into trouble - and wriggling out of it!' He had no military experience but in 1896 raised a local militia and was gazetted Captain, being promoted to Major a month later, and Colonel in 1898.,
