Description:
A gentleman’s vintage stainless steel Heuer Monaco, automatic, calendar chronograph wristwatch, circa 1970, Reference 1133, Case number 163168, 40 mm square case with brushed finish, case back signed Heuer, Tool No.033. Cal. 12 movement, 17 jewels, blue dial, applied baton numerals with luminous accents, luminous hands, two subsidiary dials for 12 hour and 30 minute registers, window for date, large square-shaped case with rounded sides, winding crown to the left, two round chronograph buttons in the band, case, dial, movement, crown and buckle signed. Original pierced blue leather strap. Original dial. Original papers. Also known as the Steve McQueen, the Heuer 'Monaco' model was created in 1969 to honour the Grand Prix of Monaco. The watch featured a revolutionary new design of a water-resistant square case combined with the world's first automatic chronograph movement with a micro-rotor. During this period, Steve McQueen was turning the movie 'Le Mans' and was given the watch to wear. It appears that he liked it so much that, once the movie finished, he decided to keep it. Due to its popularity, the model has recently been relaunched in a slightly modified version. This watch is in excellent original condition. The case, the dial and the strap have not been restored, replaced or altered.
